In Ziffer 4.2.4 S. 2 des DCGK wird eine Empfehlung zur individuellen Offenlegung von Vorstandsbezügen ausgesprochen. Dieser folgen mittlerweile immer mehr Gesellschaften. Im Jahr 2005 veröffentlichten 48,5% der befragten Unternehmen die Gehälter ihrer Vorstände individuell. Hierzu zählt auch der Vorstandsvorsitzende von Daimler-Chrysler,Dieter Zetsche,der sein Gehalt auf der diesjährigen Hauptversammlung freiwillig offen gelegt hat. Er will sich dadurch stärker am amerikanischen Vorbild orientieren und zugleich von seinem Vorgänger Jürgen Schrempp abgrenzen. Jedoch fanden die individuellen Offenlegungsempfehlungen der DCGK in der Vergangenheit wenig Akzeptanz, vor allem bei tendenziell kleineren Unternehmen des SDAX, Prime sowie General Standard, wonach nur 34,5% im Jahr 2004 die einzelnen Gehälter ihrer Vorstandsmitglieder veröffentlichten. Aufgrund der großen Zurückhaltung in den Unternehmen, brachte im Jahr 2005 die damalige Regierungskoalition einen Gesetzentwurf zur Offenlegung der Vorstandsvergütungen (VorstOG) ein, welcher zum Teil auf heftige Kritik gestoßen ist. So wehrte sich Porsche-Chef Wendelin Wiedeking vehement gegen die Veröffentlichung von Einzelgehältern und beschrieb diese als „Sozialismus auf Vorstandsebene“. Nichts desto trotz beschloss der Deutsche Bundestag am 30.06.2005 das VorstOG und folgte zugleich einer Empfehlung der EU-Kommission. Dabei nimmt Deutschland keine Vorreiterrolle ein, denn andere EU-Mitgliedstaaten (z.B. Frankreich, Großbritannien, Italien, Irland, Schweden) haben bereits ein vergleichbares Gesetz erlassen.

His background is in software development in the aerospace industry, followed by 5 years with RNIB, where he initially worked as a change agent, has more recently been monitoring web standards for accessibility. He has been heavily involved in the digital talking book inititiative coordinated by the DAISY consortium at www.daisy.org.

Not a book for the faint of heart

An interesting book covering a powerful but niche technology. Not a book for the faint of heart, get it only if you want to investigate this very specific topic or plan to do things like XML > PDF transformation. The author digs immediately into the technical details, condensing a relevant amount of info in less than 200 pages; the results are good, focused and well structured, but it's not an entertaining read. This is definitely not a beginner book. A decent understanding of XML, XSL and XPath is required; some knowledge of printing would be helpful too

Show me XSL-FO, not XSLT

My main gripe with this book is the manner in which the author chose to present the material.
Rather than focusing on "literal" XSL-FO, the author gives fragments of XSLT stylesheets that produce the XSL-FO. This means that the path to understanding the XSL-FO in the examples goes through XSLT.
While I understand the author's point in choosing this presentation (that no one will "really" be coding XSL-FO by hand, but will instead be writing XSLT stylesheets to generate XSL-FO from other XML input), I don't agree that it's the best way to explain the material.
I would have preferred to see actual, "complete" fragments of XSL-FO (both with and without larger context). I can draw my own conclusions about structuring the XSLT that I need. What I'm really keen to see is how the XSL-FO itself works, otherwise I've got no clue -what- to generate.

Apparently, too large a topic for one book.

Armed with only the most rudimentary understanding of XSLT, I found this book a little overwhelming. It's not a "cookbook", though the examples are good. There are a few places where it seems to dwell on minutia, but mostly it moves along at a jog to brisk run pace. So gilt es, die Frage nach dem Wesen und der Bedeutung seiner Malerei, die den Bogen von der Kunst des ausgehenden 18. Jahrhunderts über den Klassizismus unmittelbar in das deutsche Biedermeier spannt, neu zu stellen.“

Inhaltliche Ausnahmen bilden Waldemar Lessing mit dem ersten monographischen Beitrag, Siegfried Wichmann mit der Erstellung des kritischen Werksverzeichnisses und Sabine Heinens detaillierte Auseinandersetzung mit den späten Kobell – Bildern5. Im Rahmen der vorliegenden Hausarbeit wird versucht, den Duktus des Malers, das Charakteristische seiner Kunst darzulegen. Nach einem kurzgefassten Überblick über relevante Lebensstationen wird sich seinem Werk genähert. Da Kobell zahlreiche Studien von Landschaft und Milieu in seinen Begegnungsbildern vereint, dient als Betrachtungsbeispiel die Darstellung „Reiter am Tegernsee (I)“, welche beschrieben, analysiert und auf naturwissenschaftliche sowie kulturelle Einflüsse aus der Entstehungszeit untersucht werden soll. Daran schließt ein kursorischer Überblick der Kunstepochen, denen Kobell zu recht oder unrecht zugeordnet wird, wie es das Eingangszitat bereits andeutet. Zusammenfassende Bemerkungen beenden diese Arbeit.

About the Author

Kevin T. Jones lived among and studied the Aché while doing graduate work. He received his PhD from the University of Utah in 1984 and he has worked as an archaeologist in the Intermountain West for more than thirty years. He holds academic appointments with the University of Utah Department of Anthropology and the Natural History Museum of Utah.

The Shrinking Jungle

If you are interested in learn how hunters and gatherers probable lived in prehistoric time or in reading a good and interesting story, THE SRINKING JUNGLE is a book you will want to read. This book was created by an author that lived with hunters and gatherers for an extended period of time in Paraguay, South America. Cooperation and concern for members of the group were essential for survival. Although hunter and gather societies had the desirable human characteristics of today's societies, for them to survive it was necessisary for them to end the life of an individual if the individual was jeopardizing the survival of the group by slowing down their ability to move quickly through their regular rounds. When you see archaeological sites in the field or artifacts in a museum it is very difficult to picture the people that lived in these sites and used the tools they left behind. This book gives you a clear picture of how prehistoric hunter and gatherer societies probable lived their daily lives.

Fascinating and Fun!

The Shrinking Jungle is a both a fascinating and insightful look at the Ache culture, and also an exciting page-turner. The author does a great job of portraying the jungle lifestyle and creating rich characters that the reader can really connect with. His personal experience with the Ache allows him to describe in detail their incredible way of life, providing an educational primer on this unique group without the reader even realizing it. It left me intrigued, curious, and wanting to know more about the fate of the Ache band! This is a quick read and I highly recommend it. It's even better if you can read it simultaneously with someone else since I found myself wanting to discuss it as the story unfolded.

Couldn't put it down!

I just finished The Shrinking Jungle - once I picked it up I couldn't put it down! It's a fascinating peek into the lives of a hunter/gatherer tribe from the jungles near Paraguay, that's all the more interesting because it's based on real life experiences. Dr. Jones did field work with the Ache in the 1980s, and based this story on his time with the Ache, and on stories they told him. It's a great story, but even better because of the authentic experiences backing it up. Highly recommended!

He saw active service with the Regiment in Burma, where the Regiment particularly distinguished itself but suffered heavy losses. Randle was present at the Japanese surrender in Rangoon and took the Swords from the Japanese Generals as they surrendered.

The end of the War saw a return to a very different life requiring different skills. Guided by his strong Christian beliefs, Randle established a successful career in the City in Insurance Broking."
