Jahrhundert ist zweifelsohne der Zeitschriftentypus der Moralischen Wochenschriften anzuführen. Mit Beiträgen zu verschiedensten Fragen des täglichen Lebens und dem Charakter eines Ratgebers propagierten diese nicht nur Bildung und die gesellschaftliche Anerkennung der Frau, sondern behandelten ebenso moralische und religiöse Angelegenheiten. Außerdem trugen sie in großem Maße dazu bei, in breiten Kreisen des Bürgertums das Interesse an Kultur und Literatur zu wecken. Sie lieferten ebenso ein vorparlamentarisches Diskussionsforum auch für jene Teile des Bürgertums, die von der politischen Macht ausgeschlossen waren. Besonders in Deutschland waren die Blätter in ihrer Blütezeit sehr beliebt und verbreiteten hier wie im übrigen Europa mit ihren Beiträgen die Ideen der Aufklärung und erwiesen sich somit als maßgebliches Beeinflussungsorgan der öffentlichen Meinung.
Nachfolgend soll die Ausdifferenzierung und Entstehung der Moralischen Wochenschriften sowie ihre Wegweiser und deren Inhalte erläutert werden. Weiterhin soll auch ein Augenmerk auf den gesellschaftlichen Veränderungen im Zuge der Aufklärung, wie beispielsweise das neue aufgeklärte Bürgertum und die Entstehung einer (politischen) Öffentlichkeit, liegen. Dabei soll die Rolle der Moralischen Wochenschriften bezüglich dieser Umstrukturierungen, zumindest am Beispiel Deutschlands, herausgestellt werden.

Predictable and tiresome characters

I started out liking these books, but the characters are getting tiresome and predictable. They never change: Andy gripes about working, then takes a case. He complains about his secretary who doesn't do any work (why does he keep her?). He walks his dog, drinks beer with his friends, watches sports and obsesses about Laurie. Laurie puts up with his insecurities. The plots take way, way too long to develop into anything and are getting a little farfetched. I am almost a third of the way through Unleashed and Andy is just now meeting with the prosecutor. I have no idea where the plot is going and what’s more, I don’t really care. It isn’t enjoyable to read a book you have to struggle through.

If you like mysteries and intrigue but not a lot of gruesome details and chuckes along the way, you'll enjoy Rosenfelt's novels.

Rosenfelt's stories always entertain me and make me laugh even with the drama that goes with them. I love to read his novels in between heavier novels we read in our book club. If you've read his first in the series, you get to know the characters.They don't really change. Each story just a new mystery with a lot of twists, giggles and grins, and surprises a long the way.

Very disappointing

I hate this book. All the book is the repetition of the same code with very, very few differences. The description let's argue that is pointed to advanced users but the content is so basic that it is hard to believe. It uses SOAP in its most basic fashion. The code is so poor (also the HTML and the JavaScript used). The code is written in a so invasive fashion that if you strip it (and is not a bad idea), you will find no more than 30 pages.
The Multi-Tier is just supposed to be good and misused.
As you may understand, I strongly advise to not buy this book.

Also disappointed

I have to agree with a previous review, this book is a disappointment. This book falls somewhere between a blog post and a sophomore CS student term paper. They even pulled that old slightly larger font trick to thicken this book.

The code is so ridiculously simple, repetitive, and inefficient that its almost tedious to read through. I understand the code isn't focused, but their should at least be some logical code. Example after example is so repetitive you really only need to read the first one from each chapter. The chapter on nusoap is literally 3 or 4 pages long and an example of 5 lines of code.

You can find plenty of free resources online that do a better job explaining these theories easier. No need to waste your time or money here.

A good read

I loved this book. Wall has an easy to read writing style that is hard to find in this genre. Content wise, I'd been looking for information on the InnoDB table type, and found it here. No other book I've looked at shows as explicitly as this one how to build true referential integrity into a MySQL database. The book is worth its price for the InnoDB information alone.

This book can change your life

Are communication issues keeping you from presenting how awesome you are? As a consultant, I occasionally stumble over communication issues - aware that something is off, but not sure what's going on, much less what to do about it.

I'm choosy about quality when I go looking for help dealing with challenges: these ubiquitous lists of "the 10 best techniques for (fill in your challenge)" just don't cut it for me. I want the deeper psychology, stories, strategy, specific exercises for the habits I want to change... all of it.

In "It's The Way You Say It," you'll find out the exact habits of speech and self-comportment that reveal your level of confidence, how to move the location of where you create sound to become more compelling and approachable, what small talk is all about and how to participate (it's so simple once you understand!), and how to end a conversation when it's time. Much more: rambling, mumbling, too loud, to soft, cold and unapproachable, too friendly, annoying sound quality, high voice, even how you look when you talk!

I love this book! It changed my life and could change yours too if you have communication issues that get in your way AND you're willing to put in the work to develop new more effective habits.

Amazon - book-It's the way you say it

I ordered the book for help in being able to express clearly what I want . Not to correct a speech problem but rather how to be concise and focus on the primary issues I am trying to convey. Book is directed more towards correcting speech patterns. It is interesting and written in terms everyone can understand and there are some ideas about speaking that we're useful . Just wasn't what I wanted.

This book is a superficial overview with some very basic advice

I was not reading this for a quick fix or with the intention of turning a few pages and then speaking like a president, but I did expect to gleam something useful from the book.

The book is quite repetitive and each chapter builds up to the next, however each chapter also passes without much being said. Worst of all is the actual advice, for example I'm sure most people who talk to fast know they talk too fast, and I expect most of them bought this book with the intention of learning a technique to master their fast talking, for example to know what trigger signs to look out for, to learn ways of slowing down mid-speech, I doubt many bought it to be told the way to avoid the problem of talking fast, is to not talk so fast.

Most of the advice is along the lines of: if you want to stop smoking, simply don't buy cigarettes. A statement of fact with little description of technique, other than keep practising (but keep practising what?).

Try the sample on the kindle, the book does not improve after that.

About the Author
John Ruskin was born in London in 1819. He became a towering literary figure in the nineteenth century, known for his writings on both art and on political economy. He became the first Slade Professor of Fine Art at Oxford University in 1869. John Ruskin died in 1900.

Beauty Remembered

Nietzsche said that with the death of the sacred, Beauty would continue, albeit accidentally.

Mr. John Ruskin, however, set his sights on an earlier age, developing six principles that could be applied to gothic beauty, and in so doing, in my eyes, set down the principles for Beauty in general.

The principles are: Rudeness, Changefulness, Naturalness, Grotesqueness, Rigidity and Redundancy.

In our post-industrial age, perhaps the most telling is the first, Rudeness. Mr. Ruskin defines Rudeness as the introduction of originality into a work at the expense of a polished, finished product. What, you may ask? That's not how I do it at work! Me either brother, but it's nice to know why nothing I produce is beautiful.

Which leads me to my next point concerning this little gem of a book. These principles can be applied, in my view, to Beauty in general, not just gothic. And it provides an interesting point of view with which to look at life. Suddenly, many of the 'best things' in life truly are free.

I had no real education in aesthetics before reading this book, and have now delved deeper into the subject because of it.

How to appreciate art and life

This little book contains two essays from John Ruskin:"The nature of Gothic" and "The work of iron".
This book opened my eyes to the nature of different types of buildings and the nature of the art used to adorn them. What type of stone or metal was used and why were certain decorations were used in the work. I had previously given no thought to this. I will now look on ancient buildings as works of art.
In the last essay he explains the life giving properties of iron. How it gives life to the soil and the fact that it rusts, shows it is alive. I enjoyed his rant against how hideous iron rail fencing was around homes and how it was arrogant and saying that your property was so valuable that you were keeping everyone out. He points out that iron rail fencing is not good for any purpose. Ruskin had very srong political beliefs that come out in this work, he says that anyone benefitting from cheap labor is STEALING from those people that are not being paid for their work. That insight can be directed to us in the 21st century.
"The best art either represents the facts of its own day, or, if facts of the past, expresses them with accessaries of the time in which the work was done. All good art, representing past events, is therefore full of the most frank anachronism, and always ought to be. No painter has any business to be an antiquarian. We do not want his impressions of suppositions repecting things that are the past. We want his clear assertions respecting things present." (Page 45)

Ten Eyck gives one of the Cantos' least critically addressed and least favoured sections astute and sympathetic treatment, dispelling many misguided assumptions about The Adams Cantos and opening up fruitful avenues for appreciating both their hitherto unrecognized centrality to the Cantos as a whole and the importance of their poetic achievement more generally. Challenging the longstanding view that the Adams fall among the least poetically successful of the Cantos, Ten Eyck skillfully brings out the subtlety of Pound's poetic effects in this section. David Ten Eyck teaches Modernism and poetry at the University of Lorraine, France.
