Warum schließt sich England nicht vielmehr dem Dreibund aus Italien, Österreich- Ungarn und dem deutschen Kaiserreich an? Was beeinträchtigte die Verhandlungen zwischen London und Berlin? Oder war das Bündnis schlichtweg nicht gewollt? Diesen Fragen soll in der Folgenden Arbeit nachgegangen werden.Aufgrund der hohen Komplexität können einzelne Aspekte nur kurz angerissen werden.

Jeder Teilaspekt wäre sicherlich eine eigene Arbeit wert. Doch soll hier der Gesamtzusammenhang untersucht und analysiert werden. Dabei stehen die Jahre 1898- 1902 besonders im Fokus. Zu jener Zeit waren die Verhandlungen zwischen Großbritannien und Deutschland am intensivsten und am weitesten vorangeschritten. Doch zunächst sollen die Internationalen Hintergründe betrachtet werden. Warum gab England seine Politik der „Splendid Isolation“ auf? Hier soll der Rahmen für die Folgenden Kapitel skizziert werden. Anschließend werden die Bündnisgespräche beschrieben. Hier soll gezeigt werden, dass London, oder zumindest Teile der Londoner Regierung durchaus gewillt waren mit dem Kaiserreich ein Verteidigungsbündnis einzugehen.

Daraufhin sollen Gründe für das Scheitern der Verhandlungen erwähnt und analysiert werden. Im Mittelpunkt stehen hierbei zwei für den Verfasser enorm wichtige Faktoren. Zunächst die öffentliche Meinung im Kontext des Burenkrieges und anschließend die Wirtschaftliche Rivalität. Da die deutsche Wirtschaft und ihr Wachstum den Grundstein für die Militär- und Rüstungspolitik bildeten, soll kurz noch eines der am häufigsten Erwähnten Argumente, die Flottenpolitik, für den Antagonismus zwischen den beiden Nationen um die Jahrhundertwende angerissen werden.

Best introductory molecular biology course out there

This is a real "course", not just a number of experiments in a row to introduce techniques. The course takes you from soup to nuts in making a "biotechnology" product, instructing the student in the most important of molecular biology techniques along the way. Safety and record keeping are stressed. The student will gain technical knowledge and also will really see and understand how a product, in this course an enzyme, can be made from a cloned gene. The idea of teaching techniques on a continuum is really a great idea. Though the second edition is now a few years old, the methods are tried and true and haven't changed so don't let the date stop you. The writing is succinct and there are helpful hints for the instructor for getting the lab classroom set up, etc. I think this course would be appropriate for an advanced high school biotech class, a post-secondary technial school or college, or undergrad college class. I highly reccommend this book.

In der Kunst hat die Affektdarstellung eine Tradition, die bis in die Antike zurückreicht. Der ästhetische Begriff des Affekts bezieht sich laut der Erläuterungen des „Lexikon der ästhetischen Grundbegriffe“„sowohl auf die Ebene künstlerischen Darstellungs- bzw. Abbildungsinhalte als auch auf das expressive Wirkungspotenzial von Kunst.“ Die Film-Kunst bedient sich in dieser Tradition beider Funktionen der Affektdarstellung: erstens als Bildinhalt, um die Information über die Gefühle einer Figur zu transportieren und zweitens, um eine emotionale Wirkung beim Betrachter zu erzielen. Lässt sich nicht sogar sagen, dass es das vornehmliche Ziel von Kinofilmen ist, beim Zuschauer Emotionen zu wecken? Ist nicht sogar eines der wichtigsten Qualitätsmerkmale, ob man von einem kinematoraphischen Ereignis emotional berührt wurde? Das charakteristische der Filmsprache ist die Fähigkeit Handlungen aus unterschiedlichen Distanzen zu zeigen und so eine emotionale Reaktion herbeizuführen. Knut Hickethier bestätigt: „Durch den Wechsel der Einstellungsgrößen werden wir in unterschiedliche Nähe zum Objekt gesetzt, werden ihm nahegebracht und von ihm entfernt. Für die emotionale Steuerung spielt dies eine wesentliche Rolle,…“
