About the Author
Brian Hahn graduated from the University of Cape Town before obtaining a PhD from Cambridge in high energy physics. He lectured in Applied Mathematics at the University of the Witwatersrand for a number of years before moving to Cape Town. He is an associate professor (and Head of Department) in Mathematics & Applied Mathematics at the University of Cape Town, where he has specialised in teaching programming languages to beginners for more than 20 years. He has written a number of popular computing books, on Fortran 77 and 90, GW-BASIC, True BASIC, Turbo Pascal, C++, Matlab and, most recently, Java. When not writing a new book, he carries out research in rangeland modelling. Spare time activies include birding, jogging, and planting indigenous trees on the small holding he shares with his wife and numerous german shepherd dogs. A fantastic book for renewing oneself to Fortran 90

It has been many years since I did Fortran programming, but once I decided to get involved for professional reasons, this was an excellent choice.
The author slowly and extremely methodically exposes the reader to the Fortran 90 language with what I will coin "computational motivation." Simply stated, just when the chapter gets you thinking about "how to...", BANG, Brian Hahn begins to address that very issue with source code and explanations! I cannot say enough about this book for the beginner or intermediate level Fortran programmer. Please, do yourself an enormous favor if you are interested in using this extremely powerful (and fairly simple!) numerical language for engineering, science, applied mathematics and even financials...take a look at this text on the subject!!

I've learned quickly with this book!
I am about 100 pages in, but I like it so far.
The only hard part was figuring out how to start on my computer.
