Der Text wird als Anfang bzw. Einstieg in die Bergpredigt Jesu gesehen. Davor wird von den „Krankenheilungen in Galiläa“ berichtet und anschließend vom „Salz und Licht“. Die Bergpredigt selbst befindet sich im Matthäus-Evangelium, einem der insgesamt vier Evangelien, die neben weiteren Textsammlungen das Neue Testament ausmachen. Dem Matthäus-Evangelium liegt ein biographischer Aufbau zugrunde, welcher mit dem Stammbaum und der Geburt Jesus beginnt und mit dessen Tod endet. Zunächst soll eine grobe Gliederung des Matthäus-Evangeliums als Übersicht gegeben werden: Kap 1-4: Herkunft Jesu und Vorgeschichte seines Auftretens (Geburt, Stammbaum,…) Kap 5-7: Jesu Worte: Die Bergpredigt Kap 8,1-9,34: Jesu Taten: Die Wunder Kap 9,35-12,50: Die Sendung der Jünger - Israel muss sich entscheiden Kap 13: Gleichnisse Kap 14,1-16,12: Machttaten und Mahnworte Kap 16,13-20,34: Der Weg nach Jerusalem Kap 21-23: Auseinandersetzungen in Jerusalem Kap 24-25: Endzeit und Weltgericht Kap 26-28: Jesu Leiden, Tod und Auferstehung. Im Evangelium zeigt sich eine Abwechslung zwischen langen Reden und schnellen Handlungsfolgen, was einen Wechsel von Jesu Wort zu Jesu Tat oder umgekehrt bedeutet. Die Bergpredigt selbst ist das „Wort Jesu“ und die „Heilungs- und Wundergeschichten“ stellen demnach Taten Jesu dar.

Grund dafür waren diverse Bilanzfälschungen internationaler Unternehmen, an denen große Wirtschaftsprüfungsunternehmen aktiv beteiligt waren. So wurde u.a. der Enron-Bilanzskandal, an dem die Wirtschaftsprüfungsgesellschaft Arthur Andersen beteiligt war, im Jahr 2002 aufgedeckt, was schließlich zum Ausscheiden des Prüfungsunternehmens aus dem Markt führte. Ihre eigentliche Aufgabe, Schutz der Bilanzadressaten, erfüllte Enron nicht, was die Frage aufwirft warum Wirtschaftsprüfungsunternehmen eher dem Management als ihren eigentlichen Auftraggebern, den Bilanzadressaten, dienen. Zur Beantwortung dieser Frage existieren viele Meinungen, wobei immer häufiger die These aufkommt, dass die ständige Erhöhung der Marktkonzentration im Prüfungssektor die Ursache des „Klüngels“ zwischen Mandanten und Prüfern aber auch zwischen Prüfern und Prüfern sei. Es gilt deshalb in dieser Arbeit zu klären, welche ökonomischen Probleme im Wirt-schaftsprüfungssektor existieren und ob diese Probleme im Zusammenhang mit der hohen Konzentration im Prüfungsmarkt stehen. Dazu wird im zweiten Kapitel zunächst eine Einordnung der Branche Wirtschaftsprüfung in den Markt erfolgen, bei der u.a. bestehende ökonomische Besonderheiten, wie das Prinzipal-Agenten Problem, dargestellt werden. Nachdem dann im dritten Kapitel auf die Entwicklung des Wirtschaftsprüfungsmarktes und auf einige Ursachen der Konzentration eingegangen wurde, steht im vierten Kapitel die Diskussion im Mittelpunkt, ob der Wettbewerb im Prüfungssek-tor beschränkt und ein wettbewerbspolitisches Problem ist.

At the end of World War II, the Americans and their allies divided Berlin, the capital of Germany, into four sectors, with the Russians taking one of the sectors. The problem was that the Western (American) sector of Berlin was surrounded by the Russian sector of Germany, which was also divided.

In June of 1948, Joseph Stalin stopped all road and rail traffic coming into and out of the Allied Sector of Berlin. He simultaneously cut off all electricity to the city, leaving only a twenty-mile-wide sector of air corridors and one way to get supplies to desperate, starving people.

The United States, using the only method they could, led Allies to mobilize an unprecedented airlift of thousands of tons of supplies each day. By September 1948, the airlift was transporting food, coal, medical supplies, and other necessities into West Berlin as aid for the residents. At the same time, Russian military threatened to strike down any aircraft caught flying outside of the corridor. Finally, by April of 1949, Russia announced their intent to end the blockade, and in August of the same year, the United States airlift operation was terminated.

Western Berlin was now comparable to an island surrounded by a sea of red, which was the Russian-occupied zone of Germany. The only route into Berlin was by means of three twenty-mile-wide air corridors across the Soviet zone of Germany. Thus the wartime allies of Britain, France, and the USA realized that the only option open to them was to supply the beleaguered West Berlin by air transport and so started one of the most dramatic events of the twentieth century.

The airlift started immediately. At the beginning there were three loading airfields: Rhein Main and Wiesbaden in the American zone and Weinstorf in the British zone. By September of 1948, the airlift was transporting a massive tonnage of supplies into Berlin, including coal, food, medical supplies, and all the other necessities of life. A mixed fleet of aircraft plodded their endless path to and from the city. DC-3s, Avro Yorks, and many ex-World War II bombers were dragged out of retirement to save the city--as were the pilots who flew them.

In November 1948, the Russian military authorities threatened to force down western aircraft if they flew out-side the twenty-mile-wide corridors, but by March 1949, a total of 45,683 tons of supplies per week were being flown into Berlin. The following month Russia finally announced her intention to end the blockade after 328 days. A massive total of 2,325,509 tons of vital supplies had saved what became known as West Berlin.

Jon Sutherland and Diane Canwell have written extensively on military history and warfare. Their previous works have focused on both World War I and World War II. Their other books include The RAF Air Sea Rescue Service 1918-1986, Battle of Britain 1917, and The Battle of Jutland.

This book is unoriginal, dreary, derivative, and spattered with errors. It is neither sound as military/aviation nor political history. The authors are generalists who churn out books on every subject under the sun just as quickly as they can find earlier (authentic) works in libraries and websites and cut and paste.

a third-rate book

My problem with this book, and its authors, is the tendency to combine cliched and tired text with repetitive and dreary statistics. We get little idea here of the ideological, economic and strategic factors that led to the Russian blockade or the Anglo-American response. Both the episodes and the statistics have been lifted in great chunks from other and better books. I doubt if the authors went anywhere near a USAAF, RAF or German--and God forbid a Soviet--archive while researching this book. It is just a rehash and reads like it.

"This book, originally published in 1976, is an account of the first five months of the First World War, as seen by members of a battalion of the Grenadier Guards and told in their own words and a classic of military writing. Contrary to the popular view of that war, this was a period of movement as the Allies sought first to block the German's apparently irresistible march on Paris, then to push them back to the Belgian border until finally both sides engaged in the 'Race for the Sea' in an attempt to find and exploit the open flank. It was a phase that included the retreat from Mons, the Battles of the Marne and the Aisne and finally and most devastatingly the First Battle of Ypres.

The book is based on the diary that was kept by the Battalion Second in Command, Major George (subsequently General the Lord) Jeffreys, known to everyone as 'Ma'. Described by Harold Macmillan as one of the greatest of commanding officers, he was one of only three officers who went to war with the Battalion in August 1914 who survived with it to the end of the year. Supplemented on occasion by the letters and diaries of his brother officers and others, it provides a very complete picture of those turbulent days."

Originally published back in 1976, this is a most welcome and very engaging acvcount fo the 2nd Battalion Grenadier Guards who crossed to France in the summer of 1914. The account is told in the words of the officers of the battalion, taken from diaries and letters and makes excellent reading. By the end of First Ypres the battalion had lost 959 men, killed, wounded or missing. Highly Recommended. 10/10. - Great War Magazine

Michael Craster is a retired British Army officer who served with the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders in Aden and transferred to the Grenadier Guards on the reduction of the Argylls in 1971. He was latterly Defence Attaché in Vienna and Brussels.

Scattering, Natural Surfaces, and Fractals provides a comprehensive overview of electromagnetic scattering of natural surfaces, ranging from the classical to the more recent fractal approach. As remote sensing applications evolve it is increasingly important for engineers, physicists, geologists, and applied mathematicians to have a solid background in the interpretation and classification of microwave images and data.

The book begins with a complete summary of all classical geometry models applicable to natural surfaces. Relevant fractal geometric concepts are then applied to these same surfaces allowing for an in depth, critical comparison of the two approaches. These geometric models along with electromagnetic scattering models offer a solution to the scattering phenomena from fractal surfaces. Readers need only a basic background in classical electromagnetism and probability theories to grasp the material that the authors have very clearly explained.

About the Author
Giorgio Franceschetti was appointed professor of Electromagnetic Theory at the University Federico II of Napoli, Italy in 1969, a position that he holds to this day. He has been Fulbright Scholar and Research Associate at Caltech, Visiting Professor at the University of Illinois, at UCLA, at the Somali University (Somalia) and at the University of Santiago de Compostela (Spain). He is currently Adjunct Professor at UCLA, Distinguished Visiting Scientist at JPL and Lecturer at the Top-Tech Master of University of Delft, The Netherlands, in Satellite Navigation.

Daniele Riccio is professor of Electromagnetic Theory at the University of Napoli Federico II, Italy where he teaches courses on Applied Electromagnetic and Remote Sensing. He has also been Guest Scientist at DLR, Munich, Germany and Visiting Professor at UPC, Barcelona, Spain. The material of this book is included in the courses that he delivers at University.

what does it mean to scatter off a fractal surface?

The book discusses modelling natural surfaces, not as traditional geometric surfaces, but as fractal-like in essence. Over some length ranges, this appears to be a more realistic approach. Then, the text goes into describing what the effects of electromagnetic scattering would be, off such a surface.

The maths can get a trifle involved. But readers with a solid background in Maxwell's Equations should be able to follow the argument. There are treatments of a given surface, modelled by fractals. Here, the reasoning is deterministic, as we have a specific surface. But there is also the contrasting analysis of a stochastic surface, where we might be looking at various averages of scattering, like the far field scattered power density and its fluctuations.

Unique, scholarly, and thought provoking

The Detective As Historian: History And Art In Historical Crime Fiction is a fascinating and informative compendium of twenty-five essays which analyze and evaluate examples of crime fiction ranging throughout recorded history from ancient Egypt, Greece, and Rome, to medieval Europe, to 19th century England and America. A unique, scholarly, thought provoking, and welcome addition to literary studies in general, and detective story enthusiast's reading lists in particular, The Detective As Historian is a very highly recommended acquisition for both academic and community library collections.

Fascinating take on historical mysteries

I found this a very enjoyable book, and sometimes gripping book. It was even interesting to read about series that I don't read or don't like, just to read the author's take on the series and the time period. In the most interesting articles, the authors analyze usually one, but sometimes two series in terms of the skill with which the author evokes the historical setting, as well as the quality of writing. There were one or two duds that went off into Foucaultian analysis or the like, but I think that most people who enjoy historical mysteries would enjoy this book. And they might find some new series, as well.

Finally a Book that Demystifies Business Innovation!! Thank YOU!!

I was first introduced to Ms. Kaye as an innovation expert on NPR's Market Place, about a year ago. I was intrigued by her take on business innovation in the interview and wanted more, so I was thrilled when I learned she was writing this book. I absolutely LOVED it! Having been an entrepreneur for the past 15 years, I have always struggled with the concept of innovation in my business. My years in corporate America gave me a bad feeling about 'brain storming' anything, as it never seemed to produce results and sucked up valuable hours of my work day. Debra Kaye has provided me with a psychological Do Over with Red Thread Thinking and I am so grateful! The 5 Red Thread approach outlined in the book, makes innovation exciting and accessible with actionable steps, not just theories. Everything is connected!

I work in a small company of great people. People who are creative, happy, and highly skilled. Not long ago we had a terrible stalemate over the development of a particular product and it seemed like our system of innovation wasn't as healthy as we once thought. There are a lot of great innovation books out there but I narrowed it down to two. Our first pick, Red Thread Thinking completely freshened our perspective on how innovation works. Without fluff, this book opens with a powerful myth that tells how everything in this world is connected, you just need to find the threads.

It is to our advantage to pay attention to our everyday insights, look at them from different perspectives, and find ways to piece them with other ideas. That is how Gutenberg's printing press was developed! He changed forever the world of communication by piecing together attributes of ancient moveable type and the wine press from Rhineland vintners with his personal metallurgy skills.

This book is well-researched, well-written, and pleasant to read. Amongst the many books on business innovation and group problem solving, I have to say that this one is among the best! As mentioned, this was one of the two books we liked best for spurring innovation. TheThe Practice of Creativity: A Manual for Dynamic Group Problem-Solving was our second great find. I highly recommend it!

Finally, a business book that's all subsutance

I've been in the process of starting my business, and have been reading all sorts of books - The $100 Startup, The 4-Hour Workweek, The Lean Startup, The Startup Owner's Manual, and many others. I'm disappointed to say that although entertaining, some of these books are fluff - filled with countless stories of other people that "did it", and very little practical, actionable advice. Of course, The Lean Startup is an exception - it's now accepted as instant classic, and I wholeheartedly recommend it.

I was really, really happy to see that Read Thread Thinking is no fluff at all. It's a serious text that strikes the perfect balance between specific instructions and generalized thinking to help you brainstorm and develop ideas. The book is thorough, well written, uses exemplary stories, and really drills the kind of thinking you need to innovate. I applied the author's techniques to come up with many new ideas for my own business, and in general now approach problems much more creatively. 100% recommend.

One last note - like The Lean Startup, this book is a serious read. It won't tell you the story of Jimmy who started with $4 in his bedroom and now runs a multi-million dollar firm. It won't give you a 5-step plan for making your first billion. However, if you give the book the attention it deserves, it will genuinely impact and fundamentally transform your thinking, enabling you to tackle and solve business issues on your own. It teaches you to catch the proverbial fish.
