Wo immer Menschen sich begegnen und zusammenarbeiten müssen, entstehen Konflikte. Sie kosten Energie, Zeit und Geld und machen den Beteiligten das Leben schwer. Für betriebliche Organisationen bedeuten sie eine besondere Gefahr, da der Unternehmenserfolg maßgeblich von der Leistungsfähigkeit, dem Engagement und der Bereitschaft zur Zusammenarbeit der Mitarbeiter abhängt. Diese haben jedoch neben einer gemeinsamen, dem Unternehmensziel dienlichen Aufgabe, individuelle Bedürfnisse und Werte, welche sie ebenfalls befriedigen wollen. Wann immer sich diese Ziele und Bedürfnisse bzw. deren Verwirklichung und Befriedigung beeinträchtigen oder sogar aus schließen, besteht Konfliktpotenzial. Werden resultierende Konflikte nicht ernst genommen oder falsch angegangen, beeinträchtigen sie das Arbeitsklima möglicherweise dauerhaft. Nicht zuletzt deshalb ist es notwendig, das Verständnis für Konflikte zu schulen und sinnvolle Methoden zu deren Handhabung einzuführen. Konflikte können aber auch positive Auswirkungen haben. Aufgestaute Aggressionen und Spannungen können abgebaut und Defizite sichtbar gemacht werden. Auch deshalb ist es notwendig, über das Wesen von Konflikten Bescheid zu wissen und einen offenen Umgang mit ihnen zu fördern.
Ziel dieser Studienarbeit ist es, das allgemeine Verständnis für Konflikte zwischen Individuen, insbesondere in Organisationen, zu fördern und Möglichkeiten zu einer erfolgsversprechenden Bewältigung aufzuzeigen. Hierbei wird unter anderem auf die Mediationsmethode eingegangen. Die Erkenntnisse sollen sowohl Führungskräfte als auch normale Angestellte für Konfliktbewältigung am Arbeitsplatz aber auch in anderen Lebensbereichen sensibilisieren.
