Kurze Zeit später wurde die erste Tchibo-Filiale als Kaffeegeschäft mit Probeausschank in Hamburg eröffnet. Das Filialnetz wuchs rasch. Bereits acht Jahre später entstanden in Bäckereien und Konditoreien die so genannten Frische-Depots. 1965 übernahm Max Herz Sohn Günther Herz das Unternehmen. Unter seiner Leitung wurde wenige Jahre später das Kaffeesortiment durch Gebrauchsartikel ergänzt. Das Frischedepot wurde auf den Lebensmitteleinzelhandel ausgeweitet. 1988 wandelt sich die „Frisch-Röst-Kaffee AG“ zur „Tchibo Holding AG“ um und gründete die Tochterfirma „Tchibo Frisch-Röst-Kaffee“. Sie übernahm die Aufgaben des Kaffeestammhauses und wurde 2004 zur „Tchibo GmbH“. Ab 1991 wurde das Auslandsgeschäft von der ebenfalls neu gegründeten Tochter „Tchibo-International“ übernommen. Seit 1996 trat Tchibo auch als Versandunternehmen auf. Die Gebrauchsartikel und Waren konnten seitdem vom Kunden über Katalog bestellt werden. Daneben stieg das Unternehmen in die Touristikbranche ein. Ein Jahr später wurde Tchibo auch online für den Kunden erreichbar. Seit dem Jahr 2000 existierte das Tchibo Magazin und man war in TV-Spots präsent. Seit 2003 ging die Führung des Konzerns dann an Michael, Wolfgang und Joachim Herz (Die WELT 2003). Im Oktober 2004 startete die Tchibo Mobilfunk GmbH den Eintritt in das Mobiltelefongeschäft. Das Food- Sortiment wurde um Schokolade erweitert (Tchibo Historie 2005).
